440ICD Steering clutch Adj.

When I purchased this crawler the seller told me they had replaced the final drive on the right side and that appears to be the case.
That being said after I’d ran it a couple hours it started to slip on that side. When I pulled the cover off and the plug out I could see that the throw-out bearing adjusting screw hadn’t been tightened and it had slipped back toward the centerline of the tractor making it almost impossible to release the clutches on that side.
My question is since this slot is cut at an angle can I just use a bar and hammer it so it spins out on the shaft and then tighten the cap screw. I can't seem to move it freely but it will move outward with 16 oz. ball peen. I really want to know how much hammering this thing will take without breaking something or am I going about this wrong.
Thanks in advance for you advice…….Bob

It should move freely once the bolt is loosened. But only loosen it enough for the flat washer to spin. Make sure you tape the socket to the extension so it doesn't fall off. You should be able to move it by prying with the socket on a long extension.
