Besides the slight difference in hp. what is the real difference between a 4440 and a 4430, we are thinking of trading off our old 4320 and replacing it with something with a cab and want something with at least as much power and reliability. There seems to be quite a bit of difference in price as compared to the difference in hp.
Thank you,
Charlie

im sure some will disagree with me. the 466 is a better engine. starts a little easier when its cold. other than that, i think they are about the same. the 40's are newer so you might find less hours but they are also give or take 10 grand more money. i choose between the 2, and got a 4430. i really like it. when the time comes, i will take the 10k i saved and rebiuld the engine. its only got 9,000 hours on it so that might be a few years!

The 4440"s are "much" better in many ways, Deere corrected all the mistakes the 4430"s had and made a superior tractor. That is why they bring a higher price, they are very dependable,,there are a lot of them in my area and I rarely have one in the shop.

Heavier tractor (by about 2200 lbs) better electrical system, 466 vs 404 engine. Having spent a lot of time in both, I think the 4430 is a good tractor,4440 is a GREAT tractor.

I've had both....traded the 30 in on the 4440. IMHO the 4440 is one of the best tractors JD ever made. I had no trouble with it. Just changed the oil and filters. I think it had 6000 hours on it when I traded it off. The 4430 was alright... I just held my breath every time I used it. Get the 4440.

Two differences that come to mind. The 466 engine, and the heaver rear differential carrier. Three pinion vs two with that famous pin through the middle.

To add to what others stated 4440 has hyd seat whereas 4430 has spring/shock absorber type seat.

4440 wasn't nicknamed the "Iron Horse" for no reason. IMHO 50 & 55 series are as good as the 4440

Have had both 30 and 40 series. IMHO, the 30 series was a good tractor and the 40 series was a better tractor with some refinements which were lacking in the 30 series such as larger cooling system, larger fuel tank, the 466 engine, a bit tighter and quieter cab, better cold weather starting, and a host of other features which led to improved reliability. I tend to believe that under identical conditions and workloads, the 4440 would be less prone to some of the problems associated with the 4430. The earlier 30 series also were known for less well built final drives, axles, and the soft camshafts. I would suspect, though, that these issues were resolved in most of the 4430's by now since they all have some age and quite a few hours on them.
