the compressor doesnt come on when you turn temp. switch on. the fan speeds work but nothing else. are there fuses or a bad switch

I have a 4430 JD and I have had a similar problem. There is a fuse in the vicinity of the compressor. It has some prongs on it that completes the circuit. You can get these fuses at a Deere store. I keep an extra one in the tractor.

Check the freon. Don't try to juryrig around the switch unless you want to buy a new compressor. Chances are very good the line going up the left rear cab post is rusted out if it hasn't already been replaced. Its a very common occurence these days on a 30 series.

Exactly....you have a leak that caused low perssure that killed the fuse down at the compressor,I presure them up with compressed nitrogen to about 350psi and load a sray bottle with joy soap and water and start looking...

It's actualy a fuse in the wire right near the compressor, there is a pressure switch in the back of the compressor that goes to ground when the freon gets low, this 'blows' the fuse and kills the compressor..

several of my coustmers have 30 40 series tractors i have found that the most likly place for a leak is in metal line coming down corner of cab the low presure line usealy has insulation on it that hold mostiure on line causing it to rust strip off insulation. then pressure up line . i just hook up my compresure to the system then ues soapy water.

Not all of them had the fuse by the compressor. This was added in on some, but not all. The cheapest place to find parts for these systems is a place called ap air inc. I like buying the complete kits with the Sanden aftermarket pump and hi/low cutoff switches and new lines. They will sell an original A6 compressor for 134A but I like the Sanden pumps personally. Sure for all the lines, pump, compressor is around $1000 but you shouldn't have to touch it again for 30+ years.

The other posts are correct though, that one line does like to rust out. Seen that many many times.
