4430 Clutch Problem

Hi folks, I have a 77, 4430 that is a great tractor. Pulls good in all gears, runs excellent! My problem is the clutch, you can't slip the clutch. As you let the clutch out it will grab. Is this an adjustment or do I need to rebuild the clutch valve unit? The tractor has a Quad-Range trans. Thanks in advance for your help!! Have a good day.

Jim, I guess my guestion was not clear. You should be able to slowly let the clutch out to inch the tractor forward. On my tractor when you let the clutch out it will grab!

What I have seen with that problem you need to remove the clutch valve and take out the clutch spool and inside it there are two springs one inside the other and I have seen one of those broken and we replaced that and then you can feather the clutch after

Also make sure the inner and outer valve sleeves are not binding up a bit, I use some #800 sand paper on them to 'polish' them a bit while they are out, this and the weak or broken springs normal take care of a "jumpy" clutch.
