445 torque amplifier

We recently purchased a MM 445. It was stuck when we got it, but luckily, we were able to get it loose and running without having to put any new parts into it with the exception of a water pump.

However, it appears that the TA does not work, nothing happens when I pull the lever back or push it forward (the tractor does move and all gears seem to work fine). This is our first constellation series tractor, and we don't have any experience with TA's. For those of you with experience with these tractors, what are some common TA problems? How difficult is it to repair these TA's and how difficult is it to find parts?

Thanks for your help

When you pull the torque lever back to low range, is there no change in the forward motion of the tractor? On my 5 Star the tractor came to a stop, more than likely because the spring and rollers didnt engauge it. Is there any "snap" to your AT lever?

AlanK, right, there is no change in the forward speed of the tractor when I pull the TA lever back. The lever does snap back very crisply though.

If the tractor had been sitting a while possibly the spring and rollers are rusted/sticky and dont move or maybe the AT plates are stuck together. I would try what was suggested about putting a load on it and see what happens....

amplitorqs have a habit of breaking the tabs off the drive discs, then there is no high to it. It still snaps to engage but the whole thing spins inside the cage. This is caused by whipping up to high as opposed to dragging it up to high. Slow engagement allows all the tabs on all the discs to come to the cage, therby spreading the load to all discs.
