450 Engine Compression???

Thanks for the earlier comments. My question still didn't get answered. I was wanting to know how many pds. should each cylinder have? Since I've got to split the tractor to fix the rear main, I was rolling around the idea that I might put an engine kit in while it's all apart again and cold outside.Thanks!!!!

warm or cold all plugs out with a little oil or not what you want is all four reading close to the same 100 or so would be ok. How good is your guage does the starter realy turn the engine good there are lots of things that effect the readings but final thing are the readings alike or close you didnt say what your readings were.

Gene is correct. If you have a good gauge of recent calibration, and all testing conditions are good and consistantly applied to each cylinder, and it is a gasoline only engine, and in pretty good shape it could make between 120, and 140. Maybe even 150. But if it does not smoke, use oil, have low oil pressuer, or have plug fowling issues, I would not do the rebuild based on compression alone. ASSUMING it has uniform readings as Gene indicates. JimN

Thanks for the responses. My numbers were all relatively close but not that high. It could of been my ole tester or just operator error. Well I guess I'll split the tractor throw in a rear main seal and stick it back together. Also does anyone know how tight the bolts should be on the rear seal, because I've heard that too tight will also cause a leak. Thanks!
