4555 JD valve clearance procedure

I have misplaced my repair manuals and am looking for some pointers on valve clearance setting for a 4555 466 diesel JD. I believe you set the engine at T.D.C and set half of the valves and then rotate 180 degrees and set the other half. I also think the clearances are .015 and .020. Is this correct and if so which cylinders are set at T.D.C and which are set at 180? Thank you for any help you can give me.

set engine at tdc compression at cyl 1. adjust valves 1,2,3,5,7,9. rotate engine to tdc compression cyl. 8 adjust valves 4,6,8,10,11,12. with 1 being at the front of the engine. an easy way to see what cyl is on compression is once you get cyl 1 at tdc if valve 6 is compressed that means cyl 1 is on compression. and if valve 7 is compressed then you are at compression on cyl 6. cyls 1 and 6 are companion cylinders so they will both be up at tdc it will just depend on which is on compression. i cant remember the spec though. i just did a 4640 and intake was 18 and i think exhaust was 24 or 25 i cant remember. hopefully someone else here will know

well i guess i do have a early 6076 ctm. and youre right its 15 intake and 20 exhaust. and i just thought of this-if you dont have the special turning tool and pin you could still remove the smaller plastic cap on the engine right by the breather tube and oil press sender. find a small bolt that fits in the hole and turn the engine over. when the bolt drops into the hole in the flywheel you are at tdc 1 and 6 then just use the method i described to see what cyl is on compression. then just turn the engine over 360 degreees and adjust the other valves

There are two plugs behind the breather, the larger one is for a rotating tool and the smaller is for a timing pin. Rotate engine until timing pin engages hole in flywheel. Adjust valves 15 intake 20 exhaust. A 55 series has a 6076 engine.
