I have a 46 2N serial# 254017.
I am the third owner in my family of it. I have disassembled it for restoration & paint. The original color from the factory is a light battleship or industrial grey. The original spec color calls for a dark grey.
I don't want to upset the integrity of the original color.
Does anyone know of a shortage of paint at production time? It also came with war time steel wheels. Was the conflict with Ferguson using up the inventory of steel wheels?

Don.......paint FADES, including dark grey to lite gray. And wartime paint was NOT hi-quality. Its yer tractor, paint it enny color that pleases you. Many find the dark grey sold for Ferguson's pleases them better'n Ford dark grey sold by CNH. Which is not surprizing, 'cuz Ford NEVER published the the exact formulation (cuppa black + cuppa white, blood of neut, boil and bubble ......Macbeth) of the gray paint mix. Just bought the cheapest industrial or battleship gray they cold buy. I am NOT the tractor paint inspector.

As fer Wartime steel wheels, that was NOT the cause of the dissolution of the "hand-shake" agreement. It was the Duce's (Henry Ford II) bookkeeping decision. Harry was stealing Henry blind. Harry sued for "patent infringement". Everything on the N-Tractor had been patented by Harry. ......Dell, the 20/20 painter (looks good at 20ft or 20mph)
