46 B issue

I am trying to take the side cover off (that covers the clutch throwout bearing) so that I can replace the gasket since the darn thing decided to leak. I got all the bolts out and found that the bearing that supports the 1 end of the transmission shaft (it is towards the left side of the case/cover and about middle heighth wise) won't come loose. I was wondering if the bearing was pressed onto the shaft or if mine has just ceased on. Any help would be great.

Additionally I was looking at my pump shaft/pto shaft and it appears that the splines are twisted about 1/5 of a turn around the shaft. All the twists are even which makes me wonder if the thing is supposed to have the twist in it. Anybody have any ideas on this?

The PTO shaft does not come with twists in it!! Those have to be added later by bone headed tractor drivers.

The bearing is not a "press fit" onto the either the shaft or the cover case so it is supposed to come apart there relatively easy. That should be the right side?

On the right side, there should be a small cover cap in the middle of the cover case held on by two nuts. Under the cover, remove a cotter key and castellated nut that holds the bearing to the input shaft of the transmission. The I&T manual shows a snap ring behind and in front of the bearing OD which should mean that the inside race of the bearing is supposed slide off the transmission shaft when the case is removed from the tractor. I seem to remember a lot of screw drivers and pry bars along with some hammering and a dose of colorful language tossed in just for good measure when we did that here.

Thanks for the ideas. I thought the bearing should come off the shaft, but wasn't 110% positive.

Since the shaft isn't supposed to be twisted, there is obviously something wrong with the some part of the unit. Once I get it all torn apart (which it really doesn't want to come apart right now) and the sticky issue fixed, will there be any problems with the shaft being somewhat twisted? I probably won't be using it at all, and if I did it would be very light duty.

You will find It's only twisted at the splines.

I got the shaft out and boy is it twisted. Anybody have an idea on how much pressure it takes to twist the shaft? I can see the cracks in the metal where it gave way when it turned. Is there any danger in it exploding while I am running the tractor?

I see the pictures of the PTO shaft. Are you still having troubles getting the side cover off?

Finally got it off. Took some big screw drivers, rubber mallet and a few nasty words.

I am trying to get my flywheel off (somehow I managed to get the bolts loose without that dumb flywheel wrench) but it is not wanting to budge I tried to head the out side of the wheel next to the shaft and then put some rust juice on it, but to no luck. Any ideas on things I could try? I am also having the same type of problem with the rear wheel hubs. Thanks for the help so far.
