i bought this tractor not running not stuck. owner had 3 years could not get running, he put on new starter, new carb. new 6 v battery.turns over very slow. also slow with plugs out.i put new rings.rings were wore out. bearing looked real good have good spark with 1/4" PLUG. MY QUESTION CAN I RUN THIS TRACTOR ON 6VOLT NEGATIVE GROUND. HAVE PUT HEAVY LUB IN OILPUMP NO PRESSURE. MOTOR DOESNT TURN OVER FAST ENOUGH. I READ THE FORUM EVERY DAY.

Check your battery cables - should be 1 or 1 gauge thick. Back the starter out away from the motor and clean up the connection between the block and the starter. See if that makes it turn over faster.

Gene,

Flipping the ground from + to - will do nothing to help your symptoms, if that's what you're hoping.

Step one....go through all the connections and make them squeaky clean. This includes the main connection to the starter (NO, not the heavy wire...the face of the starter that contacts the mounting surface on the block).

Step two...make sure the battery is up to snuff...6-1/2 Volts or better.

Small or bad battery cable will cause that problem. You need cable that are 0 or 00 or bigger. The small common auto type battery cables just do not cut it when you have a 6 volt system. As for oil pressure pull the line off where it hooks to the block and turn it over. You should get oil out there. If you do then you have some pressure if you do not then you may have a loose of broken oil pick up tube if you have primes the pump already

i have a 43 2 N and it turned over very slowly and went to part store and bought 00 cables from battery to switch to starter and bought new 6 volt battery. It turns slow for first couple reps but then goes faster. it doesn't take much to get them started as i have learned by a few awesome advice guys in here as in Soundguy, Ken, Dell, HCooke from top of my head who are very knowledgeable in these tractors. Good luck the cables are not very expensive either. change them and try it

I JUST WENT OUT AND CLEANED ALL WIRES AND PULLED STARTER OUT AND CLEANED STARTER. PUT BATTERY OTHER 2N THAT I HAVE STARTED RIGHT UP.10 ABOVE THIS MORNING AT PLYMOUTH, IN. PUT BACK IN TRACTOR DOESNT TURN OVER BETTER. GOING OUT AND DRAIN OIL

went out and toke oil line loose at tee no oil in line ran starter no oil .drained oil. pump is tight. is there easy way to ck oil pump. i have hood and radiator off. thanks to everybody for your help. gene

I had an 8N years ago that had no oil pressure like that and I found that the oil pump plate the as I would call it was scored and I pulled it off and snaded it smooth and pressure came right back up. Big problem to check that you have to pull the oil pan off which means taking off the front end

Remember that the ground cable or strap is equally important as any other....The place wher the ground cable connects is important... most recommend you don't attach to any thing except cast iron... clean the paint underneath, too.

G'Luck

You may want to try spinning the engine with a 12 volt battery. Prime the oil pump with heavy 90 wt oil. MAKE SURE IT IS OUT OF GEAR. Leave key off and ground negative jumper cable from 12 volt battery to a good clean not painted metal point on the tractor (Not near any gas source). Clamp positive jumper cable from 12 volt battery to the FRONT copper bar between the solenoid and the starter. The engine will start to spin as soon as jumper makes contact. Let it crank for 15-20 seconds and see if you get oil pressure. Never try to start a non-running engine without first making sure you have oil pressure. Without oil pressure a running engine will be destroyed quickly.
