460 has something stuck.

My 460 gas got water in the clutch housing during the recent flooding. I drained and replaced all fluids and filters afterwards.
After setting a week it acts like the clutch is stuck to flywheel but upon further messing with it I believe it is in the torq amp. I started it in gear and drove it around the cul de sac a bit. When I depress the clutch it does not seem to release. When t. a. is in high position depressing the clutch seems to drop it into low. In low position depressing the clutch makes no difference. Nothing I do releases engine from drive train.

When I drained hydraulic/trans fluid only a cup or so of water came out. No milky fluid.

Any ideas of what I should look at?
Thanks,
J

h yep you have a stuck clutch dics to the flywheel and pressure plate. Now this may or may not work BUT you can go up thru the bottom inspection cover and try and install the three shipping bolt into the pressure plate and tighten them down to release the pressure on the disc unhook the throw out bearing linkage by removing the pin on the clutch release shaft then remove the six bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel then use a pry bar and pop the pressure plate loose and knock the disc loose from the pressure plate . If this works and the disc is freed then just rebolt everything and get it back together then stuff it in fifth gear and do a little Crowler sliding of the clutch to shine everything back up. IF you do not run the tractor every couple days then it may be wise to block the clutch pedal down so that does not stick again.

Common problem with tractor and water. Stuck clutch disk to flywheel. Block the pedal down when parked. If you can pull the starter or such to get brake cleaner spray in and on the clutch with it blocked down and if you can turn the engine as your spraying it. If you can find an open area where you can drive it around in the highest gear you can take it for a drive holding the clutch down till it frees up. BTDT many times over the years on old tractors

I am a little confused at why a stuck clutch plate would feel like it is shifting into a lower range when clutch is depressed.
Thanks for all of the advice so far.

The clutch pedal is interconnected with both the primary clutch on the flywheel, and the TA clutch on the front of the TA. The TA clutch is about 7 inches and works just like the primary clutch with a Pressure plate and throwout bearing , and a driven plate . The pedal releases the primary clutch first, then the TA clutch an inch or so below the primary clutch engagement point. As you push the pedal beyond that point with the primary clutch stuck to the Flywheel, the TA shifts into low range just as it should. Jim

Thanks Jim.
I did not understand how the system works. I guess I better get a shop book on this system.
