How do i cover this?

I would like to know of a way of covering the hole to the inside of transmission,that the shermem shifter goes.?
When its on low ,low as it is here ,it sticks out a bit ,for you have to pull the lever out and up,for really slow. Actually its an open hole any position.

Any ideas?
I have water in the rearend, but was letting it sit,and I see good oil on dipstick. Im assuming I can crack the drain plug a. Bit to let water out?

The Sherman shifter enters the bellhousing/clutch housing and does not allow water entry to the transmission. Any moisture entering there should drain out the weep hole with the cotter pin at the bottom of the housing. There was originally a rubber grommet that pretty much seals the shifter to the housing, you can purchase a new one, possibly from our host. If not a search should turn one up.

The most common areas of water into the transmission/hydraulic/differential case is the shifter boot and the 3pt lift arms.

If the oil is not milky or discolored, cracking the drain plugs and letting the settled water out is a good idea. A lot of modern fluids emulsify water into the oil and all you can do is replace the oil.
