Got a chance to buy a 1958 460 int. did anyone ever pull one and have good results . This one has 16.9 x28 loaded but has a steering problem.

Thanks

A 460 International ? Do you mean it is a utility

tractor ? If so a guy by the name of Esdon Lehn

started pulling on one. He had some pretty good

results.Lots of 460 Farmall pulling tractors

out there.

460 is quite popular locally. Generally have enough power stock to run the lighter low gear classes. several engine swap options if you want to go fast.

maybe, IDK for sure. I do know that we had a 460 gas and I have never hated any other tractor as much as that pos. What a cold blooded, gas drinking dog.

Actually it wasn"t even a real 460 hood and grill. How many 460 hoods have you seen that were as wide as that one? All the classic looking modern pullers have classic looking sheetmetal but are a lot wider than the original predecessor.

if it's a International and not a Farmall it has

collector/historic value. 1958 is first year of

production. Tractor has same rpm as row crop, unlike

350 utility. Might take more work to lighten, the

fast hitch is mounted with different castings.

A high utility was built so 38 inch rears are

legal. Lots of people/parts available to make

more hp. Guessing steering problem is cylinder

behind front end leaking ?

I had a 460 that I sold last year and still have another one. They make one of the best mid weight (5000-7000lb) pullers around when pulling with a 5 mph and up speed limit. Can easily get 125+ hp and they are very nice tractors. I will have to disagree with dboll on this one.

that's fine everybody has trheir favorites, If someone never ran anything else they would think they were ok, my 1550 Oliver was way more tractor than Dad's 460 ever was

John in mn- I used a 301 block out of an 806, but I have been told and would have to agree that a 263 and 301 block are the same.
Dboll- I'll agree, a stock 460 isn't much of a tractor, but they're very easy to improve with bolt ons.

Esdens dad, eldon lane had a 966 they pulled in the diesel superstock class back in the day and esdon drove it. i have many old puller magizines that i saved and old videos of it and manyother tractors pulling. my great grandfather use to pull with esdon and his dad eldon back in the day. and esdon had a 1486 that he pulled with later i believe that accually started as a tractor rather then how most are built now days with component chasiss
