4600 differential oil level

I tried searches, but no luck. How is the oil level in a 4600 checked? thanks

I have a 4600 and the check plug for the rear differential is just behind the right side foot rest. It will either be a hex plug or a square headed pipe plug on the right side if your sitting on the tractor. It is about the same height as the transmission check plug. However on my tractor it has a square headed pipe plug for the transmission and a hex plug for the rear differential. If yours has a hex plug I would recommend getting a 1/4" allen bit and a breaker bar to try to get the plug out. You may have to remove the cover/metal shroud thing that runs down the right side between the seat and fender. There are several other bolt heads and screw heads in the same area but look for a plug, whatever you do don't loosen the large slotted screw head that fits a flat head screwdriver. I think thats for your pto shaft or something. Also if your fluid hasn't been changed for a while then you'll need a 1/2" breaker bar for the plug on the bottom. Capacity is about 8 1/2 gallons UTF.

I've never messed with a 4600 but most of the 3 cyl Fords had a small pipe plug in the side of the differential housing. Right side above the step plate. By your heel.
