4630 making engine oil

When cooler winter weather set in, the oil level seems to rise in crankcase, I suspect that it is fuel leaking into engine thru front seal of injector pump. Have had some tell me to add a quart of dexron transmission fluid to a tank full of diesel, that helped their problem. Can this harm anything even it doesn't help. My neighbor has a 90's Ford Power Stroke, he adds quart every third tankful, havent seen him come back home yet without his truck. Just like input if it would help the leaking seal. Thanks

Does the 4630 have a fuel lift pump which is operated off the camshaft on the side of the engine? If so, you may have a small hole or split in the diapharm of this lift pump. MFs are famous for this happening. The lift pump will still work, but will pump diesel into the crankcase. If your oil is diluted with diesel, better change right away and find the problem. Tom

I have always heard that the old Ford Type F ATF contains seal conditioners. I would add that to the fuel and no, it won't hurt anything even if it doesn't revive your seal.

Thanks for the reply. My 4630 does not have a lift pump, only the injector pump. I have also kepy an eye on the P/S reseviorand it stay at same level. It took about 6 months to gain little over a pint, I changed the oil about a month ago and it has gained almost a pint during this time due to contraction of seal to the cold temps we've had. When using tractor more in the summer did not notice this problem. Tractor does not get used this time of year. Thanks for all help and will try ATF for Fords. Leon

Are you saying that the P/S is losing oil and the engine is gaining oil? If so... those two are most certainly related.
If the engine is making fluid you need to find out where it's coming from. Could be fuel pump, P/S pump, hydraulic pump (if it has the engine mounted pump) or a head gasket/block cavitation issue allowing cooland into the oil. Rather important that you determine where it's coming from. Fuel and coolant are important to deal with NOW. Hydraulic or power steering oil... not such a big worry.

You can add the ATF into the fuel but I don't expect it will do much either way and certainly won't fix a bad seal on the pump.
