4720-trailer spotting

I'd like to spot my goose necks horse trailers with a John Deere 4720. I have a 3 pt. for the rear. Where can I get an after market ball/spotter for the loader?

make you one. just a sturdy piece to go between the ends on the lift arms with a ball on it. a ball to small will make easier to use. added a piece to the piece to keep the ball upright that would slip over one lift arm with plenty of play in it to allow hitch to swivel as needed. most rv or boat dealers have one on a tractor that you could look at.

I have seen these on ebay too. But here is one from northern tool. $299

Perfect example of a KISS solution. No need to buy anything fancy- people try to complicate problems. I do the same thing with my skidloader- hole in the bucket edge for either a hitch pin or a ball hitch. Perfect for backing wagons, trailers, etc. Made a gin pole that attaches to the inside rear of the bucket with one pin, pinned to the same front hole for lateral stability. Use the same hole for attaching a chisel plow tooth for trenching wire, hose, etc.

Be careful. Only pick up the gooseneck just enough so that the jack clears the ground. And NO HILLS!!

stay safe.....

Except for the fact that keeping it simple and homemade fixes often result in unsafe loads being placed on things not designed for them and things getting broken or people getting injured.

Exactly what sort of fifth-wheel trailer do you plan on spotting with your 4720? What is the tongque weight at the hitch, and is your tractor and loader rated for that much weight? Do you have enough ballast on the rear of the tractor to offset the load of the trailer, even if the loader is rated high enough to move it? Or do you know any of the factors involved? What the loader might pick up and what it's rated to pick up are two different things, and you could easily damage the loader, tractor, yourself or all of the above if you try to move a big, heavy trailer with a lot of tonque weight around with a little tractor like that. You're dealing with a tractor and loader made to move around small bucket loads of sand, gravel, manure and the like. If you're set on moving your trailer around with the 4720 and doing it on a fairly regular basis, it would be much smarter to build a small dolly with a pair of wheels, that could be attached to the drawbar and tha the trailer could be hooked directly to, so that none of the weight is on the tractor itself.
