Ran my 660 over 50 acres of ground in the last month with no issues until the last day or two. Noticed a change in sound maybe fuel or maybe electrical. Required more choke to start last couple days. Ran a crisp bill through the points and seemed to improve for a half hour then went downhill and limped to the barn. Changed points, problem solved.
Just got off my 8N sounding very much like the 660. Required holding choke to get in. I normally think of that as a carb problem (and might be).
What would cause choke to help with weak spark? Increased cylinder pressure from added fuel lowering ignition point?
Its a front mount so the crisp bill through the points wont be as easy.

(quoted from post at 20:45:04 05/22/21) Choke gets you a richer mixture.

I'd just replace the points & set the timing. See tips 66,67 & 68.

Thanks Bruce. Ill change the points but they dont have many hours and got a new resistor on the last change. Why would the richer mixture help with the weak spark condition?

(quoted from post at 14:02:05 05/23/21) The richer mixture is easier to ignite.

Thanks. Ill post a (hopefully) final update post-points/timing for the archives.

For archive purposes, while symptoms matched my 660, running as long as using choke, for which new points were the cure, not so for this 8N. New points and set timing, ran great...fully choked.
Cleaned and put in a carb kit and purring like a kitten.
