looking for low oil press. things-- got the pan off - pulled the oil pump--6-8-thousands clearance between gears and pump housing- gears dont look to good--pulled center main bearing and used plastiguage-looked to be 3-4 thou. there and copper showing on quite a bit of the bearing-- rod bearing looked better with 2 thou. oh yea the pumps sump was clean but the cover plate had quite a bit of where to---any thoughts to share would be nice--thanks in advance!!

mains should be 1.6 to 4.6 rods 1.3 to 3.8. change all bearings is what i would do.you can also adjust oil pump relief valve. there 2 differnt pumps it could be.

Roy, check pump gear backlash. A lot of backlash will cause leakage backward and low oil pressure too.

Roy, for for the 188D and 188G that were standard in my 630 the Case manuals say that the measurement should be between .OO4-.008".

i think we are talking about a compleatly different tractor -- the 500 i am refering to is the old la looking tractor with the 6 cyl. deisel- but i do think the clearance between the gears should be a lot less than what i see here -- -- i will put a guage between the gears tomorrow- i think this engine is a 377 ci correct me if i am wrong thanks for now!!Roy from cold nw iowa brrr!!

Yes Roy I know, but that is the only Case book I have that gives backlash specs and I figure they are more or less the same for most tractors of that vintage. At least it gives you a guide. Others may have the 500 book but I am betting the oil pump backlash specs for the 630 are close to that of the 500.

Hope at least those clearance dimensions help when you check. My original pump was something around .020 and I had almost no oil pressure.

Jim

Roy, You could machine the pump body to reduce the clearance between the gears and the end plate and have the endplate machined to get rid of the gear wear. I take DC pumps right down to almost a rub on the endplate. With that done I think you will find the pump totally satisfactory. A DC pump done that way will maintain nearly full pressure cold or hot with properly set up bearings. I believe the 500 has an adjustable relief so when you get the new bearings installed just stick the pan up with a few bolts and run it, drop it and set the pressure then install it for good. mEl

i just checked the clearance between the gears of my oil pump and i can put a 20 thou. feeler guage in between with no problem - and they are quite rough- sounds like from all the experts that i can rebuild it with new gears and some machine work--Don L let me know if you can find a set of gears- the no. on the pump is A6312A if that helps-Roy Prins ps all you guys are great help --THANKS
