i installed a new voltig regulattor but was told it has to be energized is this wright and how do u do this ,is there a esey way to change the brushes in the genarater on this tractor thanks for all help

the regulator itself does not need to be polarized.. that's for the genny.

I would remove the genny from the tractor to replace brushes... IF it's a brush issue.

try a motor test first.. slip belt off, disconnect all wires from genny, jump bat hot to arm and field.. if genny spins, she will charge usually.

at this point.. she's also now polarized too.

if she won't motor (spin) or charge.. post back.

well i never did think of it yesterday but today i reved up the eng and gen light went off hope this is fixed, thanks again for the info will remember this thanks

Generators with worn brushes or weak brush springs need to be reved up to start generating.Brushes are replaced when they are half their new length.Make sure you actually have a problem before you try to fix it.Dosent hurt to have a set of new brushes on hand.Buy an induction ammeter for 8 bucks. You can hold the meter against the armature wire and read the charge rate.
