74 5000 diesel will not run. It will turn over and run for 30 seconds or so,then die from fuel starvation. How do I fix this?

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the Ford board.
They don't charge by the word here so how bout you give us a little more to go on.
Is this tractor new to you? Had it for a while?
What did it do when it started not running right? Has the tractor been sitting for a while? How much do you know about these Simms pumps and diesels in general? What have you tried so far?
Lots of ideas here but more info would be the ticket to getting better help.

Assuming it"s in reasonable mechanical condition(good compression and good cranking speed) most likely you have a fuel supply problem. Could be a clogged strainer in the tank, pinched fueline or a clogged fuel filter, etc.

You could also search the archives, this question gets asked and answered several times per week here.

this happened to me this spring on my 5000. after three attempts after adding fuel i started looking. removing the fuel line at the tank there was no fuel coming out so i removed the fitting. it was 100% stopped up and did not have a screen on it. after cleaning the fitting and re-priming everything it started right up. initially i thought i had ran out of fuel but the problem was a stopped up fitting. i like to start at the tank and go forward rather than the reverse. good luck on resolving your fuel problem.
