52 case low hydralic pressure

I recently bought a 1952 Case VA and it will do everything I need it to from bush hogging to box blading, but it will not pick up a round bail.

It's only a 12 h/p tractor....what do those round bails weigh? 600-900 lbs each?

Good morning Larry,
There could maximum weight issues. Vac tractor only weights around 3400#. There are a couple of things that you could do to possibly improve the ablity of the pick up the round bale. Make sure you have clean new hydraulic oil. Make sure it is not milky in color. Meaning it has water contamination. Next the only other thing is take the hydraulic piston out of the eagle hitch and check the the hydraulic pistion rings on the piston. The original were leather and the replacements were o rings. The o ring style start to flatten out over time and don't seal as well which cause blow by. If you do go that far there is one item that is also a must. You can go buy o rings to replace the old seal but you also need to get a nylon scraper ring which helps slow down Hydraulic oil blow by and gives the bottom o-ring the proper pressure against the cylinder wall.
Last thing that could be is a worn out hydraulic pump and parts are not availble.

I am currently working on a vac with the same prob... went to case dealer wich was an case dealer and got 2 orings figgering that would fix problem. Got cyl apart and it is leather type. Can i use these orings or do i need to do something else?

The turnover for leather cup piston to o-ring piston was during 1950-51 model years.

Either piston will fit the cylinder and function so you may find Va's with either piston regardless of model year but the piston is designed for either a leather cup or for o-rings, not both, nor interchangeable one type seal to the other.

Piston with screw holes on the top use a leather cup original JICase p/n V22900, later CaseIH p/n A30798.

Piston with lands on the side use o-rings (2) original JICase p/n V20353, later CaseIH p/n A30757.

To determine if your piston seal is leaking excessively disconnect the vent/leak-off at the housing. Cycle the hitch about 10 times to clear the void under the piston of residual grease/oil.

Lift a weight on the draft arms, put lever in neutral and shutdown engine. Ideally there will be no leak-off at the fitting other than some remaining residual that will cease after a few minutes.

thanks joe that is what i was figuring. Is ther any way to modify the leather type cut some oring groove and move them a little? Has anyone done this?
