52 Ford brake bolts?

Good evening and thank you for reading. I have a 1952 8N, took the wheel off to work on the brakes, left side as you"re sitting on it if that makes any differance. There are "4" Bolts/screws holding the outer part on with a slot in them like a straight screwdriver would fit, problem is, the screwdriver wont get them out. I"ve put W-D 40 on it hopeing that would help, but it did"nt. Question is, is there some kind of speacial tool or way to get these out, or keep dowsing them with W-D 40 and hope for the best?
Thank you for any suggestions!

Git a cold chisel that will fit the slot from end to end, clap a set of vice grips to the chisel, have someone swing a BFH and hit the end of the chisel while you have pressure to back the screw out on the vice grips they will come loose no damage to the screws. Or buy a hand impact driver and break the bits. I have a box of broken bits if enny wants'em, BTDT. I don't think you will live long enuff to soak'em free, BTDT to. Its not so much the screw threads are stuck its the tapper of the screw that has married the tapper in the drum.

I center punched mine and drilled them out. Those screws are countersunk. Once you drill past the inside edge of the rim the drum will come off. The heads are much larger than the shank of the bolt.

I had tried a large screwdriver and vise grips but, with no luck. I"ll try hitting them as well next. Thank you.

I'm trying to think of the name of the tool but I think its called an impact driver. It fits in your hand, has different tips like flat and phillips and you hit it with a hammer. You also adjust for CW or CCW. They are like 10.00 at Harbor Freight. I've never had to drill one of the bolts out and I've pulled a lot of brake drums. Also you must adjust the brakes in or the drum will not come off

KRH:

As John has already said, an impact driver will usually remove the brake drum screws.

When it does not, use an appropriately sized socket to install the largest flat screwdriver bit that came with your impact driver into an impact wrench. Works every time.

Use a chisel at the very end on one side, strike the chisel with a hammer in a direction that will turn the bolt counter clockwise (unscrewing it). The shock, plus the pressure on one side in a counter clockwise direction, will unscrew this bolt. You will not be able to use the screw again, but you do not need it anyway. It was put in place just to hold the drum on while it rolled down the assembly line.

Mine came apart easily with a flat blade screwdriver bit installed in my air socket wrench. Wouldn't budge with any hand impact drivers I had. The socket wrench gave just enough impact with each blow to bang the screws out, screaming all the way.
Screw slots were destroyed...
