520 Fan

After re-building the power steering pump on my 520, I cannot tell which is the front and backside of the fan. I should have taken a picture. I have looked at the exploded view in the parts book and the rivited side appears to be toward the back, but on a tractor I looked at, the rivits are toward the front.I cannot tell by the wear marks. It will assemble either way. What is the obvious I am missing?

You should be able to tell which way the fan goes on by the direction of rotation of the engine. The fan is supposed to pull air through the radiator.

The blades point the same direction either way. One way the fan is off-set toward the front and the other way off-set toward the back.

dark in the tractor shed but I'll look on my 520 in the morning...

Was putting model 50 togather today,bolted on radiator,then thermostat housing.Fan would not clear housing by about 1/4 inch.Fan needs flipped to be closer to radiator.

Rivets to the front or rough side to the front. You want the fan blades to slice the air as it pulls air back. Kinda like takeing a scoop shovel to the side of a snow bank. works good one way but turn it over and not so good.
