Am I supposed to check the hydraulic/rear end dipstick with the engine running or not. My manual says it both ways. What do you guys think?

You check it shut off and on level ground, however if you just added a lot of oil or refilled it you have to run it for a while to get the axle housings filled to proper level, that might be what the book is saying in a round about way. The dip stick on that model is a tough one to get good readings on and that is why you see the long dipstick on the magnum tractors that reach to the center housing for a better reading.

Thanks pete, that makes a lot of sense, the book was confusing. I always checked it with it off before I read the book,
