yeah you can get one at the auto parts store that has one wire to your coil, one to ground and one to battery.

thats what im wondering if i can use just a regular auto tach and wire it up through the genorator since i dont have a coil...

No you can't. You will need a mechanically drive tach, or you would need to add a hook up to the crank pully. either by magnet or prox. switch. I don't know the mecanics of it but those are the only ways I know to get a tach to work on a diesel.

No you cant. Theres nothing to hook it up. But there are some places were you can buy a tach kit to run off of your flywheel
