560 smoking

I just got my dad's 560 as he passed away recently. It runs really great but it smokes quite a bit. My father and my cousin rebuilt it about 12 years ago and it has had very little use since then. When you hit the starter it fires up instantly and really purrs nice. Any ideas?

Is this 560 a diesel? What color is the smoke? Does it go away after it warms up. Have you tried it under load(like plowing) at normal operating temp.? After the overhaul was it worked for a couple of days under load (like plowing) to seat the rings? More information is needed. Armand

It is a gasser. It was never worked very hard. The smoke is blue and not all that visible but it is noticeable.

Hey Pard,

Talk to your cousin. Ask him if they put in new pistons and sleeves or did they just hone the cylinders and re-ring it?

Allan

Work it for a couple of hours and see if the smoke gets better, or worse. If worse, you have problems.
Since it hasn't been used much in quite awhile, the rings may need to loosen up a bit.
If it will only get occasional use, you can put up with adding some oil once in awhile. If it's still smoking after some use, try some 20w50 at the next oil change.

They went completely through the motor. New sleeves, pistons pretty much everything. I did notice that when I take the dipstick out when it is running I get smoke coming out of the crankcase.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the replies. I am going to do some mowing and blade work this weekend. I know that isn't working it like a plow or disc but I don't have access to these implaments.
