I'm restoring a 1957 super 88 would like to know the correct colors. I know the wheels are read but was wondering about the center grill strip.I've seen pictures where it was red and others where it was green. Also the strip above thegrill that goes over top of the radiator.

Heres a couple pictures of a super 88 from John Weeks Photo collection.Take your pick.I don't think either of these are '57's tho.

The tractor in the first picture is painted correctly for the first super series of tractors with green wheels.

The second tractor is not painted correct for a red wheeled super. The wheels are painted correct, but the the center grill strip should be green with yellow letters. The nose piece/ radiator cover and top of the hood should be green, also. The only yellow was on the grills and the decals.

At one time or another, in the years leading up to the super series of tractors, Oliver used about every color of the rainbow on their tractors.

Starting in 1954 Oliver printed some of the best colored advertising brochures ever. They are the best sourse of correct information when it comes to painting a tractor correctly. This is true on the later tractors, also.

I have a 57 Super 88 diesel with power adjust rear wheels. The outer part of the wheel looked to be silver. Thats what i painted it back. The wheels an grill were clover white an the tractor was green.

Well here is one with the front Grille Strip as you stated but, the wheels are green. Most of these tractors shown in this John Weeks photo collection are maybe on there second or third repaints by owners who are not so much interested in correctness as just having a nice looking tractor that maybe they grew up with.I grew up with an Hart Parr 18 something or other on steel, a Hart Parr 90,a Oliver 70,a Oliver 77, a Oliver 88, a Oliver Super 99 and a little Ford 8N with a Dearborn Loader and back Blade on it. All my dads tractors were Gas models and there was a variety of color schemes if you could ever get them all together at one time to look at them.During my High School years most of the farming was done with the 77,88 and the 99 and the little Ford got used pretty hard around the barns.Jh
