580 Case Backhoe Drawbar / Hitch

Has anyone fabricated or know of a simple drawbar hitch that can be welded or bolted onto the back of a Case 580 loader / backhoe ?

To me a logical place (perhaps the only place) that it could be mounted would be on the bottom of the backhoe boom just behind where the boom pivots on the large pin or shaft.

I think this would be handy on a construction site to enable one to use the backhoe to pull around compressors, welders, light stations etc... (anything that is fairly light weight and mounted on a trailer or wheels)

I wonder if it could be strong enough and not harm the hydraulic rams, etc... to enable the 580 to also pull a farm disc or a roller harrow etc...in a cultivated field.

Thanks, Any response is appreciated !

Pulling a disc or something, I think would hard on the powershift transmission. I'd just pull stuff backwards with it hooked to the loader bucket. Don't think it's worth the risk of damaging the hoe. Dave

Thanks 135 Fan for the Reply.

One thing I am wondering about the transmission in a 580; doesn't the 580 Landscaper / Loader which is basically a 580 with loader on front but with a three point hitch on the rear instead of a backhoe have the same transmission as a 580 Backhoe / Loader? These tractors do come with an optional drawbar that looks just like an agricultural tractor's drawbar. I would think that if these 580 landscapers are set up to pull things with the stock transmission; a 580 backhoe could do the same thing without damage to the tranny.

Maybe I'll call my local Case dealer with this question. Any other comments from the forum are most welcome.

Thanks, Ross.

If they're the same, take a look how the drawbar is bolted on to the landscaper model. I read, on here I think, that for long continuous pulling a standard transmission is better. I could be mistaken though. Dave

Most people think there is a way too much stuff on a backhoe already without putting more ideas into the hirer"s heads, here in the UK when someone hires a backhoe it will be 4X4, extendahoe, four in one bucked fitted with forks and piped for a rock breaker,so the hirer is getting a digger,a loader,a grader, a dozer, a forklift and a rock breaker all in one machine, you say a Case 580,there are about 20 models, the backhoes comes off them all and you can fit a drawbar or three point hitch, all the backhoes up to the 580C were built on the 580CK tractor, from the C on the power train changed to a Borg Warner Shuttle coupled to a four speed transmission and that changed again in about 1988 when they used Cummins engines and Carraro power train, most of the newer machines are now powershift,go to the link below and you can check the parts drawing for the drawbar for the model you got.
