is it possible to turbo my 585 in my a4t 1600 without chopping up the intake manifold and hood?
also for those of you that have done this what model turbo did you use and did u modify the fan or radiator to controll the heat? just looking to make 30-40 more hp to pull the chisel plow better.

Area Diesel Service (800-637-2658) seemed very helpful. They told me that the M & W turbo was not sized very well for 585 cu in @ 2300 rpm. They did some research and found a "T04B" off of a 640 cu in Massy would work well. Another option was a S300 off of a 821 cu in JD. They highly recommended a bigger air cleaner. I believeone off a semi would work well and mount it like the guys do with the HD800 (on the side of the tractor). the biggest problem you will have is the adapter plate on the exhaust manifold. You will also have to run a 3/4" oil return line back to the crank case. All of the pictures I have seen show the turbo under the hood and no mods to the intake.

Hope that helps. By the way...Area Diesel seemed to think 30 hp add was very easy to get.

I HAVE 2 TRACTORS WITH 585M-M TURBOS UNDER THE HOOD ITS TIGHT BUT CAN BE DONE. MOVE AIR CLEANER OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THAT HELPS COOLING TO 40 -50 HORSE WONT HURT THE MOTOR

I'll agree, a s300 should work good as the 8.1L deere is a 496 ci, but dont know if headgaskets would be an issue with a 585 engine. Von at Area Diesel seemed like a very nice guy and you probably cannot beat their prices, very good company to deal with.

We have a White 2-150 with the stock pump maxed out to farm with. It runs about 225Hp. Engine seems to take it well and stays cool. Head gaskets and the bottom end seem to hold up fine.

I have herd some hype about not turboing untill the valves are updated to the 2-150 style. what are the differences between the early 585 valves and the late 585 valves? this is a early 585 in a 1970 plainsman showing 4700hr previous owner said their was some head work done to it but didnt know the details.
