5ft. Brush hog

I found a used International Pull type brush hog, its in decent shape, needs blades and has some dents. I beenlooking for a brush hog for a while, this one it only 5 miles from me at a dealer. I call for the price he said $875. Were they a high dollar unit when new? Would it be anybetter than a new King Cutter from Fleet FRarm for $750?

I'd keep looking and or go to a few auctions. I have sold a good many of them for around $250-400 and see them at auctions all the time for around the same money. Also if it needs blades your looking at $25-50 each just for the blades

Go to a few farm or consignment sales. You can usually find a decent name brand heavy duty mower for less than a grand.

TRACTOR SUPPLY HAS 5FT KING KUTTERS FOR 700.00 NEW WITH A WARRANTY. IT'S BULIT STOUT. I JUST GOT ONE AND IT WORKS GREAT.MY BROTHER GOT A 5FT AND I GOT A 4FT. MOST OF THE USED ONES HAD ROT UNDER THEM.

Steve, I am not running down your mower, but I could ruin a King Kutter in a week here on the farm with the kind of stuff I mow. They will work OK on grass, but when it comes to brush and bushes as well as rough terrain you better have a Bush Hog, Rhino,BMB or some other heavy mower with stump jumpers and slip clutches. I mowed anywhere from 500 to 1000 acres a year up until this year and can tell you with great confidence that a 700 dollar mower will not pass muster down on the farm. Some ground I couldn't get to every year and it was quite whooly when I did. They will serve well for light duty home owner type mowing.

Are we talkin International as IH, IH case and the like or the international outfit that makes a lot of aftermarket equipment. Two entirely different Animals. If it is an original IH, IH case or the like it may be worth it. but if you talkin the other International then you talkin new price. Ain't sayin the International brand ain't good (they are) just lower priced. Check it out a little more.

i have an i-h model 27 5ft rotary mower. not a bad mower, does not have hydraulics to raise and lower height, you turn the crank. other wise not a bad mower, however, parts are getting hard to get and they are real expensive. last time i got blades from the dealer, they were 125.00 each. when this one gives up the ghost, i'll probably go with a king kutter.

At the very least make him take you to dinner and a movie before you let him do that to you. That cutter will bring about $450 when he desides to let it go to a consignment auction.

I can`t figure out why some of the dealers will over price their stuff so bad and never make a sale and then will turn around and send it to an auction and pay the commission rather than sell reasonably off their own lot. I won`t even call the local JD dealer about any thing he has. I know what consignment auctions he uses, and that is where most of his older stuff goes after it sets around for a few months. Makes me mad just to think about how he wants to rip people off when he tries to sell something old off his lot.

One thing I find with dealers is that some are worried about the stuff coming back after they sell it. Just little things.... A few bucks here, a few there.... but if a lot of people buy something and it breaks in a day or two, they're going back to the dealer for some "help". It doesn't matter if it's bought "as is" or not. Many still go back.
I find that if you have a good relationship with a dealer, and they know what you're like, and they know that you don't come back to them for repairs on something that was bought "as is".... they tend to give you a better deal. There's no cost of service to them. That's why it goes to an auction. There's no cost of service after the sale. What I hate is trying to deal with a dealer 300 miles from home, when I make perfectly clear that it's out of here, gone, never coming back.... and still can't get anything from them. Especially on an overpriced item. But, some are like that.

I bought a 5' King Kutter brush mower about 8 years ago. I beat the heck out of it for 4 years and it was all dented up.
I kept the oil in the box full and had to replace one of the blade pivot bolts.
I sold it with a tractor to a guy who beats it worse than I did.
It's still holding up.
The KK is a light duty mower. I wouldn't pull it with more than about 30 hp. I used an 8N.
If it were my money I'd pass on the International and get the KK.

I think you are exactly correct. I can even see the dealers side of that issue. Heck there are plenty of people that will complain about the quality of a T-bone steak, when there is nothing left on their plate but the bone with teeth marks on it. It just seems to me that dealers aren't finding enough "good customers" to even make it worthwhile to put most of this stuff on their lot for even a few days.

I haven't been reconized yet as one of them "I won't ever bring it back" customers, I guess that is my main gripe.
