6.5 diesel

The stupid thing will not start again. All of the glow plugs are working. I tried several pmd's, I went ahead and changed the fuel filter, I checked the lift pump, but it will not start. I tried to start it the other day and it ran for about 20 seconds and then it died. An now it will not start back up. What is wrong with the chevy pile of junk?

Did you bleed the fuel filter well? Is the fuel tank anywhere near empty? On our '95 Suburban these things tend to happen when the tank is 1/4 tank or less. Sometimes I have to "grind" the starter quite a bit to get all the air out of the system before it lights off. We've had our share of problems too but last night we returned from a six-hour trip with no problems except the regular SES light coming on when coming up long grades. Another thing I noticed last night was that the temp seemed too low (about 170) --maybe the thermostat is stuck open so I plan to check that tonight.

Hi there I an a mechanic in a gm shop and get the pleasure of working on these things...I sounds to me like you have an internal injector pump problem, will set a fault code too if you know how to get them out of the truck...There is a "silent warranty" on 6.5 pumps too, maybe call you local dealer and inquire.

EEEEEEEASYYY with that pile of junk talk!!! My truck may hear you LOL. I've just rebuilt my '95 6.5TD in my service truck and while it did cost far more than anything else I have rebuilt I did do a few things to try to combat the inherit problems with them, like old style mechanical fuel injection (why mess with something that works so well???) and the '97 model cooling system upgrades, both of which added quite alot to the rebuild price.

I assume that by checking the lift pump you had the bleeder on top of the fuel filter housing loose while cranking the engine over and saw fuel SHOOT out?

I'm sure you know if you have a good supply of fuel to the injection pump it can be either a mechanical internal pump problem or electrical.

Have you loosened the lines at the injectors to see if you may just have an air locked pump? I may be getting in on the discussion mid-stream and I dont know what you have already done, if it's info you already heard/know I apologize.

However I do have an electronic injection pump off my engine I have plans to put on Ebay. I do not know the condition of it, I purchased the truck not running but it was not a fuel system related problem with the engine.
