I want to keep my tractor looking original and install an electronic ignition module in it. My question is....Can my original 6 volt generator be converted to 12 volts without ruining it? If so, would like to know how to do it. Thanks, AWB

Yes, it can be converted to 12 volts. I do not know how to do it, but any good generator shop can do it. I think they just change the guts of it. The outside stays the same so the correct police never know unless you tell them.
If you do not know fo a local shop, look in Green Magazine and Two Cylinder.

My mechanic claims the only requirements are a 12 volt battery and 12 volt bulbs in the light sockets. I tried it on a '47 A with the original cutout relay and switch. Works as new. BTW - He also dictated the parts and part numbers required for the engine and governor overhaul while dismantling the governor. Told me I should check the numbers before ordering - they were all correct. I don't even consider arguing with him - I hate to have to prove myself wrong.

I worked on a 55 chev that blew up a new 12 volt battery.I put an ammeter in the line and found a 60 amp charge rate at idle. The generator had been had been replaced with a 6 volt unit.Your post will cause much trouble for any one who trys it.A 12v generator fixed the problem.
