60 transmission issues.

On my 60, sometimes when shifting from the right side over to the left side none of the gears will work. You let out on the clutch and nothing. If you shift back over to the right side and back over again that usually will fix it. Whats going on?

This is an age old problem covered by many posts, however your problem is wear and the transmission, forks, shafts, and possible bearing are worn out of working range. All the old transmissions, if nothing is done to correct the slop and wear will have these common problems. Ever 20-30 years these things have to be checked.

Sorta the nature of the beast. It is a three speed with two ranges that changes from high to low when shifting from right to left side gears. It gets in neutral between high and low range. Nothing wrong.

We arent farming with this tractor. Is it something I should check out or just leave it be.

We may pull the square baler or the rake every now and then but other than that just drive it around every now and then.

Try going into 2nd with the clutch disengaged then go to your other gears that you want, then push the clutch to the engaged position. Mine does this from time to time, due to some wear in the above mentioned parts, but by placing the selector lever into 2nd always solves the problem. Kindof quirkie I know, but it has done this for the last 6 years under regular usage. Sort of nature of the beast until I take the time to tear everything down.

Ryan, odds are your shifter is loose and jumping out of the forks. See if you have up and down play in your shifter lever and if you do you will have to remove the shift quadrant and fix the pivot mechanism. When you shift gears on these tractors it's very good practice to push DOWN on the shifter lever when you shift from one side to the other. This will help somewhat with the problem you have. It's a natural movement to pull UP on the shifter. Don't do that. Push down. Mike

the idea its better to push down on the shifter when shifting may be a good idea on the 60 but I can tell you it is not on the 70. On the 70 shifter, on the bottom of the fulcrum ball is a recessed c clip. when you pull up on the shifter it keeps the c clip pulled up into the recession in the bottom of the fulcrum so it can not come loose. I found out the hard way this winter shifting the 70 on a nasty cold day, pushed down on the shifter enough that the c clip was below the recession and it allowed enough slack that the c clip fell down the shaft. i just tore into it yesterday to fix it, easy fix pushing the c clip back into the groove, and once fulcrum ball set back over it, the clip is secure in the groove. Let me tell you on my lp model it is no easy task getting the shifter tower off to fix this simple problem.
