6000 Commander injection pump

Has anyone here timed and injection pump on one of these? I have the manual and went through all the steps this weekend without any luck, but now I have some specific questions for someone who has worked on one of these before.

Gary, were you able to connect the pump to the crank gears more than one way? I"m wondering if someone took it off, then put it on 60-90 degrees off the timing mark (if that is even posible). Or does the pump have a keyed shaft that can only match up one way? With the timing mark visible on the crankshaft dampener, lined up with the pointer on the timing cover, the timing mark on the injection pump isn"t even visible through the adjusting holes on mine.

I loosened the cap screws to adjust the injection pump, but it won"t even get close to the timing mark on the crankshaft dampener, so it is easily 60 degrees out of sync.

had the same issue. i would have number 1 cylinder top dead center ready to fire and the marks were no where to be seen. found that the coupler that the pump bolts too was turned 180 degrees the wrong way. on mine, the bolt that goes through the adjustment plate ended up being on the bottom of the adapter when the motor and pump were timed correctly. just seemed odd to me but it worked so i was happy. does your book show a good pic of it? that makes a big difference for good reference.

On mine, the bolt that goes through the adjuster plate is on top when the TDC mark is lined up on the crankshaft dampener, however, the adjusting cap screws are nowhere to be seen. Is it possible to take out the bolt and rotate the adjuster plate to line things up? I pulled the bolt out, but couldn't get anything to move. the IT manual has a few photos, but the detail is limited.

been a few months for me on mine but dont one of the bolts that hold the adjusting plate to the pump have a longer end on it that goes into the pump? if you take the cross ways bolt out of the adjustor plate it should come off. from w hat i remember on mine, the coupler would only go on one way but it could be 180 off so you could pull the plate i guess...i might have to look at mine again to remember. wow, how the brain fades fast....

Thanks Gary,

It sounds like I need to pull my injector pump off, and reinstall it 180 degrees from where it is now and see how the timing marks line up. I appreciate your help, I'd like to get this boat anchor running, it's been sitting in my yard too long.

mine set for two years before i got it all back together. try turning the pump, i will look at mine tonight and try to refresh my brain so if you need more help let me know.

Are you sure that #1 cyl. is TDC on compression stroke? both valves on #1 cyl should be loose. If it is 180 off try turning the engine 360 and see if marks line up.

Dave,

I have turned the engine around many times and keep getting the same results. No marks will line up. I am going to make sure #1 is at TDC (with the valve cover off) and confirm the marks on the pulley are correct. If they are, I will start to work backwards from there. I will probably have to take the pump off and realign everything. Thanks for you suggestion.
