Hey gang, I bought this thing a few weeks ago. The guy had it apart trying to hook it to an AC. I have a 851 and it dosnt hook up to it either..and now Im wondering if I could handle it if I could get it hooked... was these picker made for something like a 5000? Its a good looking picker. I been looking at some way to put wheels under it and pull it... good-bad Idea? Thanks

It was meant for an NAA(!) on up. We had one on an MF 65, same size as an 800, no problems. You need to have the right under axle brackets to put it on your tractor. To mount it, you also need a manual to explain how the linkages are connected.

Had one mounted on an 851, changed it to a 4600. Made brackets and fastened then under the fender bracket. You can make it work on your 5000.

It does not fasten to the 3 point hitch completely, it mounts on rear axle brackets that extend behind the rear axle, you need a manual so you do not break something or make it fall over.

I understand one problem the ford picker had was weight.

If it was somewhat wet in the field you would just sink with all that extra weight on the tractor.

One of the best old one row pickers was the New Idea, it picked good, was easy to hook up and did not add extra weight to the tractor.

I had a neighbor that had one of the ford pickers in excellent condition used on a 861 ford tractor, he sold it for $25 just to get it out of his tool shed.

It was very manueverable . . . had a good view of the snouts and it was very good at getting under down corn. If the corn was leaning toward the tractor the snout was far enough forward to get the stalks up before the front wheel got there . . . lots of dust and dirt came off those rollers and went right to the operator though. Actually was easier to pull wagons vs. NI 323 with the same tractor, because all the weight on the drive tires. Husking bed was slow, liked to back up, need to carry a broom handle with you to push bridged ears off the end of the rollers by the hopper. Ford used a lot of belts, too . . . sometimes problematic with slippage and jumping.

Aparently I dont have everything that it takes to hook this thig up, and I dont have an idea how the bottom brackets fit into this. It looks to me like the center lind and the bottom brackets would make it kinda fixed with the lift arms playing no part. Maybe I cant see the woods for the trees. The main housing tube rubs my 13.6 tires if I lift it up much high.. I need that manual.. Thanks tim in (in) and (nj)

There's a bracket that goes under each fender and go down below the axle. The fender bolts are what holds them on. I am Greg Replogle typing this info from my father-in-law Ron. He has a 601 he's rebuilding right now that will fit on my 1953 Jubilee. He's making our brackets that go under our fenders. He can make you a copy after he's done with his. contact me at [email protected]
