Howdy All, We recently purchased a 63 Ford 4000 5sp 172c.i. engine. Fluids were changes which looked like original from the factory! A tune up kit was installed and the carb (TSX 813) was overhauled. I should add that the plug wires were changed out as well as the coil...12V system. The tractor ran rough when we got it but seems better after parts were replaced. Still, carb power adjustment seems too rich or too lean with no middle ground. When opening the throttle all the way the tractor sputters a few times but does accelerate. We checked operation of the centrifugal weights and they seem fine. Dwell is spot on and the only other thing we haven't checked is the timing...no timing light yet. Are there known issues with the TSX 813 carbs? Any info may help!
The tach on the tractor was inop but the cable was moving ok. I ordered a new tack from this site and installed it the other day. At idle the tach showed about 450-500rpm so when the throttle was opened all the way the tach needle wound around the gauge until it struck the pin where the needle rests with the engine off. I can't believe a new tach would be the issue here? Throttle was lowered until rpm read 2400rpm. Throttle stop was adjusted to this point but then throttle movement was limited to about 3" of travel from idle to max power. Has anyone ever had issues like this? Other than a new cable what might be causing this problem? Heaps of thanks for any and all suggestions!!
