So my neighbor has been using the tractor over the winter to plow the road, they live there we just have a cabin. but he said the shifter broke and what's happening is no matter where the shifter is placed whether in neutral, reverse or a forward gear it goes forward when the clutch is let out. So my question what's the likely problem and can I see by taking the top plate off or will I need to split the tractor. Thanks for any help Mark.

Just pull the shifter cover off and you should see the problem. I was nervous the first time I opened up the cover years ago but now know it's not a big deal. Have at it.
