If rocks have been dropped in it (or that’s what the previous owner says) just my opinion but I’d be pulling the head AND the pan take a peak see what happened
It’s a long way for a kid to climb up and be dropping rocks he’d have to go up one handed stand on the hood drop them down unless he has the wisdom to use his pocket at which point he should be old enough to know better it isn’t like a kid dropping rocks down the drain to plug the tile line in the shop that takes no effort or forethought just a kid and a handful of rocks
I’ve heard “there was a kid playing around here” a couple times when buying tractors a carb that ended up being a leaking float that had holes in it is a recent one that came to mind. It’s an easy way for the owner to tell you somethings wrong and he knows it but isn’t quite sure what and doesn’t want to be responsible and possibly could be an easy fix
I bet you find no rocks but it is locked up and the answer is the same pull the head drop the pan
Manifold off you should be able to see a little bit as well rock wise
I mean could be a split liner too and maybe you can see with borescope if it fits maybe not if it’s below a piston that’s how mine got the crank bent and was the chicken for that egg frustrating part of that is I fixed the liner then it would start but you could tell it was lugging the starter incredibly hard at one spot where Crank bent
