70 diesel puller

Pulling a 70 diesel in 7500# and 8500# farm stock, I
have had the pump and inj. rebuilt and the head
worked. I'm still stalling out. Is there a way to
slow 1st gear down? Will gears out of 720/730 fit?
Trying to beat some hot farmall 460s!! Any advice
very appreciated.

Hate to tell you , but the best way to beat a Farmall in a tractor pull is to get an Oliver or Minnie Mo.

Stock 10mm 70D pump & 5 hole injectors or did you upgrade to the 720/730 13mm pumps & 6 hole/narrow angle injectors? 720 0r 730 head for better intake flow? Have you matched the ports, blended the valve bowls and removed port casting flash? Oil bath air cleaner or dry conversion? Exhaust manifold, pipe and muffler? Did you have the cam ground for more flow and the cam followers trued up?
That 1st gear is plenty fast in a G or 70.
What tire size?

Glen, don't have him spend too much money...that 70 is just too darn fast in 1st. It's just the nature of the beast. I guess he could go to a set of 28 inch tires.... :(

Hey Mike M, I got a 1948 JDA I pull with and beat farmall M, MinnieMos, and even oliver diesels! Ive got the trophys to prove it. later Hoss

Sent 10mm pump and inj. to 2-cly. diesel shop and
had them redone. 70 head ported w/ valves out of 830
Dry conversion, did not have the cam ground. Tire size 15.5/38s. Tractor is turning 1450 rpms. Can you
swap the 1st gear out of a 70 for the slower 1st
gear in a 720/730? Also does anyone make a flat back
for a 70? Thanks for all the help. RUSTY DEERE

If you sent your pumps and injectors to 2 Cylinder Diesel Shop in Conway Missouri, then don"t be surprized if you got shoddy work.

My personal experience with them was that after installing my fuel pump and rail assembly that they so called rebuilt and calibrated, I found that the bolts holding the pumps to the rail were bottoming out before the pumps were tight to the rail. This allowed fuel to pour into the crank case. Luckily, I still had the fuel pump cover off and realized that all the fluid flying around in there was not just oil.

If the pumps would have actually been calibrated on a flow bench, this would have been easily found. Take it for what its worth, but 2 Cylinder Diesel Shop is the diesel equivalent to Denny"s Carb Shop and this is no compliment.

I also find it ironic that his wife wrote a column in the Hook magazine about thieves at tractor pulls. Gave me a laugh.

How many HP does it read on the pto? A stock 70 will spin out in that weight class on clay.
Albert at Rennaisance Tractor is the one and only source for two cylinder fuel system equipment. Anything else for that matter too.

I'll bet you got a small fortune in that A ? It takes alot to get them competitive.

The guys around you must not know much about Olivers or Farmalls , but it does take more money to get the M's going than I think it would an Oliver. In the old days they could stuff the largest engine in the smallest Oliver and go cheap and easy.

Trouble with the 2 cyl. tractor is everything was built alot heavier than the competitors for a given HP. This and the 70/30 weight distribution made them excell in the field , but not on a race track.
