7000 series

Gentlemen, looking for our first tractor to do 60 acres corn/beans hobby with my Dad. Only ever been on John Deere 4430 and 4020, guy I worked for part time for years has. I had always wanted a 4430 and looked into finding an affordable one. But the Allis 7000 to 7060 series are nearly half the price for comparable. Some very very nice looking low hour ones under $10,000. Why the price difference? Just the color, or were these somewhat prone to problems? What were the differences in years and series? Any common problems to look for?

Save yourself alot of money and get a good running D-17.
Pop did 70 acres every year for the potatoes with one.
Cultivated and sprayed with C models.

The 7000 series came out in 1973 and were made through 1981. The 7010 through 7080 have a lot in common while the 7000 is only similar in cab and sheet metal. The 7010-7060 were available with a power shift transmission or a power director. The power shift is a six speeds with a high/low so it has 12 forward and two reverse, with six gears you can power shift. The power director was available as a 16 or 20 speed, with most being 20 speeds. This arraignment has five speeds, a high/low range, and a high/low you can shift on the go. The power director was the only transmission available in the 7080. The 7000 is based off of the 200 and has a 4 speed manual with a three speed power shift. The big changes in the 7000 series was in 1978 when the cabs were slightly redesigned and the shifters were moved to the console. When they did this the frame of the tractors were painted black.
Performance and reliability are good for all the models. The reason for the price difference between the orange and the green is simply because....for some reason people pay more for the green paint. For your 60 acres Id look for a 7000,7010, or 7020. These tractors would have all the features you need and have the 301 ci. engine and should be a little easier on fuel. The other models have the 426.
