Just curious, but what are the diferences between these tractors other than different years? To me they all look pretty similar except for having lights on the fenders of a 708. Thanks for any and all input. Steiger.

Dont' know anything about the 704's but the 706 and 708 are just sheet metal. The 708 had a dry air filter and 706 had an oil bath air cleaner. I think the early 706 had a coleman front axle and the late 706 and 708 had an elwood, but i may be wrong.

Here is a picture of dads 705 and 707, 2wd of 706 and 708.

The engines are quit a bit differnt the 704 are 425 cid the 706 and 708 are 504. The 708 has a heavier crankcase and the later square port heads on the lp. 704 and early 706 have the splined rear axle. >ate 706 and the 708 went back to a double keyed axle.

not wanting to start an arguement but my 704 has the same keyed axle as a 705/6. Was the spline axle on standards possibly ? or is mine not original ?

They started with the Elwood axle, and then went to a Coleman. The Elwoods were army surplus, and when the market showed a want for more of these FWA tractors, MM started using Coleman. I belive the only difference between a 706 and a 708 is the sheet metal.....

When a "local" threshing show featured MM our neighbor was going to bring a GVI and G706 there...the GVI had ring and pinion trouble so I got to drive the G706 to the show...about 55 miles...what a drive. I should have paid him to let me drive it lol...

Yours must have been replaced. They didnt go back to the Keyd axle until the later 706 tractors.Did you get the 704 from the same guy that had the three speed vista FWA? I heard he had one.

My Bro. has that one I have another one and I want to go look at his and see what it has. I guess inside they would be the same huh ?
