706 break down

Hi guys I was pulling a load of corn yesterday with my 706 (d282) I had pulled multiple loads before that the tractor seemed to be running fine, when on the last load I was coming up a hill in road gear and all of a sudden I lost some power and it was kind of popping with smoke some white and I knew I wasn’t going to make it home it sounded exactly like i I lost a couple of cylinders, when I pulled over I got off and checked some stuff didn’t notice anything and I shut it off where it was once I had help I tried starting it and it would not start we made sure I had fuel going to the pump and the return wasn’t clogged. The injectors were just redone on that tractor in August. I’m thinking injection pump but would anyone have any help in what the problem could be? Thanks!

I don't have experience with the Farmalls, but I have experienced running out of fuel. Presence of fuel doesn't indicate an adequate flow for the pump to develop pressure. Any crud in your tank? How long since filter change?

No there should not be any crud I cleaned the tank actually because we were having problems with that and the filters were replaced about 2 months ago. It seems like we have full flow to the filters then to the pump

Sound to me ya blew a head gskt, . Loss of power on a pull white smoke , miss . yep head gskt , A known issue on the D 282 .

Was the engine overheating?
Ever heard of the rubber glove trick?
Remove the radiator cap then take a nitrile/latex rubber glove and put it over the radiator. Make sure it has a pretty tight seal on that radiator lip. You will also want to plug your overflow line off. Then crank the engine over.
If the glove inflates, you have compression gases getting into your coolant, meaning you blew a head gasket.
You could also try taking the return line off your injection pump and see if it'll start then.

White smoke makes me think of blown head gasket also,
I agree with the head gasket theory. I would think it would still start on the other cylinders that still have compression. Also with compression down on a couple cylinders where the gasket has blown it should have an uneven sound when cranking. When the crank position is pushing on the compression stroke of the cylinders with little or no compression the cranking speed momentarily raises.

There is also the possibility of a failed injection pump flex ring

There is also the possibility of a failed injection pump flex ring
Usually if particles of the broken flex ring are blocking the return outlet the engine will still start because it takes some time for pressure to build in the IJP housing. The pressure build up is what hold the pumping elements so they can’t fill with fuel for the next pump cycle. He could loosen the timing window until it dribbles a little fuel to see if that allows it to start. The flex ring can come completely apart and the pump will still work. The flex ring is just a cushion for the weight cage against torsional vibration. But if left completely broken to pieces for a long enough time the resulting metal filings aren’t to kind to other parts in the pump.

Thank you guys I really appreciate your help. We took the return off to see if it would start and still wouldn’t start also I tried the rubber glove over the radiator and it didn’t blow up when cranking there no oil in the antifreeze or anything we also tried the timing cover on the pump and only diesel came out no grounds or anything, my questioning is when I crank it over there’s not an once of smoke at all when i try to start and there’s always been smoke when i crank it until it started. But now there’s none at alll

Take the timing window off and see if anything is turning in there when you crank the engine.
