715 Separator clutch

The separator clutch went out on my 715. Looks like a pretty good job to fix. Any tricks or pointers I might use?

The separator clutch transmits power to a splined shaft. Or at least it does if it is a hydrostatic drive. I sheared the splines off of that shaft one time. Had to go to a salvage yard to get the parts because they were no longer available from C-IH.

Have you kept the clutch adjusted up? Ours started slipping on our 715 Hydro and we adjusted it and went back to work.

I just rebuilt mine on my 403. Granted I had the engine on the ground but I did make some mental notes if I ever had to do it mounted to the combine. Send me an email if you have any questions and I will give you my cell phone number. David

You can tighten the clutch up to engage separator, however it wont release as long as the engine runs, also starts with the load. We have done this until you could have more time to fix it. You have to remove the drive housing adapter to replace the separator clutch, the pressure plate drives the hollow outer shaft. The transmission is driven by the inner shaft, clutch is below on transmission.
