Here's how it is on my 71 3020... The demensions given in the book are for adjusting the springs while the assembly is bolted in place. If you have removed it to do work, then just look at the back. The bolts should be flush with the back of the plate they are threaded in. Hope I helped. Devin

How can anybody that owns a 37+ year old tractor should find it a surprise or an emergency when the tractor breaks down?They should own the service manual before the breakdown.

Shawn -- you did nothing out of line. And I invite you to come back again and again as needed for tips. The fact is - this is a thread that's been meaning to happen for a long time. It was kicked off by B&D's post of a telephone number - the toll free telephone number for John Deere Publications. His inference here is that tractor owners should buy the manuals that go with their tractor. That in itself isn't too terribly out of line, but when put out there at the wrong time, it became like a match to gasoline -- we had "lift-off"! That post has appeared on this board over & over without too much reaction, but this time it hit a chord of discontent. Hopefully, B&D will find a more tactful way of expressing his sentiment. I would define a "moocher" (as you say) as one who keeps coming back with question after question -- with the questions the kind whose answers would be easily answered by a Deere Publication. I disagree that a fellow asking a single question qualifies him as a "moocher".

My request is that you either put away the police badge, or be a little more forthcoming when listing the Deere Pubs Number - saying who it is -- or as someone pointed out to you, list the web link.

After being around on this site since 1999, it seems this forum has become quite rude at times in the present day. I would just like to ask, what the hell is the purpose of this forum? I thought one of the purposes was to offer help to those in need. Thats what it appears to be on every other brand forum. I certainly dont mind helping out someone, maybe Im in the wrong for being a good guy, lol. Not trying to add to the war, but it surprises me how much energy is wasted being negative, instead of offering something positive.
