While engine running, I noticed diesel fuel was leaking from the base of the fuel transfer pump this morning. I removed and disassembled the fuel transfer pump (bolted to the side of the governor). The shaft of the drive gear has wear marks (scoring) where the oil seals (two of ‘em) contact the shaft. I believe this is the source of my fuel leak problem.
John Deere has a price of $250 for P/N F3627R. Can this be right? What are my other options for a fix?
New seals without fixing the shaft will likely not solve my leak problem.
I am contemplating cutting the shaft diameter using a centerless grinder (shaft is hardened and probably too hard for a carbide cutter), fitting a hardened sleeve, and grinding back to original diameter (approx 0.484”). This is a lot of work.
How about just cutting down the diameter and finding suitable oil seals? I don’t think the size reduction will cause any problems. Has anybody tried this approach? What seals did you find? Supplier? Part number?
Is there an aftermarket supplier for this part?
May also be able to cut off the gear, fabricate a new shaft and assemble to the old gear. Suggestions for affixing the new shaft on the old gear?
The shaft seals are marked CR 5133 USA. I suspect I can find this locally. Right?
Thanks for any suggestions.
