720 flat back

I pull division one and want to get my 720 lighter.
1. How rare are these flat backs?
2. What is a fair price for one?
3. will a 720 standard flat back work or a 70 flat back work.
4. Does anyone know were to start looking.

The place to start looking would be either a tractor salvage yard or a junker sitting in a fence row somewhere. Post in the classifieds on this site in the wanted ads. I'm not the expert, but I think a flat back off a 70 or 720 will fit. Or the other option would be if rules allow, have one fab you up one, might be cheaper too. My humble opinion.

i put a flat back on my 730d got it down to 6900 pounds, put it in 7000lbs class and no way to hook it up, defeated my purpose,

One from a g will fit. I have one on now it weights around 6850. It takes some doing to hook up the pto.

The 70 and 720 flat backs are different, but the 720 version may actually be easier to find. One "without rockshaft" could likely be found where standard-treads are being salvaged. However, that housing was offered on both row-crops and standards. Deere covered the area where the PTO assembly would go with a cast plate (approx. 3/8" thick) if a 720 was ordered without PTO. If no hydraulics were ordered, 1/8" steel plates covered the governor/pump area, the PowrTrol control box area, and the holes for the lines. You could make those look exactly like factory. Swap-out your fan-shaft and front pedestal for a non power steering set-up and get a light single front with 16" pressed steel wheel (like the cotton pickers used). A Gas 720 will be close to 6500lb (cast rear with 15.5 tires) and Pony Start Diesel will be around 7000lb. Electric start on a Diesel will get you well under 7000lb. I had a Pony Diesel that still had the hydraulics & PTO, had 18.4 X 38 tires on pressed steel, plus tip-over bars and it was 7000 with me (300lb) on it. By the way, it had no problem running 2nd with those tires on the best tracks. It was stock cid, but Roger Marlin worked-over the fuel system.
