720 pony motor

I have been working on the pony motor for a while. I have it running but the issue now is that the fuel wont flow out of the fuel tank to the carb. I have played with the fuel shut off and that didnt work. The only way I can get it to run is to pressurize the tank but as soon as the carb runs out of fuel it stops running. does anyone have any ideas? I"m going to a pull on Friday and Saturday.

Is the hose from the tank to the shutoff open and clear? I had to replace the hose on mine about a year ago because the gas wouldn't flow fast enough to keep it running. I still have to have the tank over half full to get it to run good.

Your rubber hose is collapsed,between gas tank and carb,take hose off at carb,check fuel flow,if that is not the problem,check for obstruction at the carb inlet.

I replaced my hose several years ago,I bought a new one at Deere,don't know if they still have them or not.

Your local parts store should have that clear braided hose in your size. I d try that to see what is going through.

You would have to do some creative plumbing. That fuel hose has copper tube (I think 3/16) crimped into the ends, and uses ferrules and nuts for connection. If you get the hose from Deere it is close to $50. Don't ask how I know!

You can get 1/8" NPT fittings to put regular hose barbs on the sediment bowl and Carb. I did just that, and put a simple on-off quarter turn shut off from a small engine shop on mine. I was sick of gas in the crankcase. leave it on for the pull and if you stall out you can crank the pony. I really like to store it with a dry carb. so I shut it off when finished for the day.

I redid the hose today with 3/8 hose and fittings. The first time I cranked it it ran great. I tried it again and it doesn"t have enough fuel. Any other ideas?

Remove the fitting on the bottom of the pony engine fuel tank and push a phillips screwdriver up the opening to push out the screen inside the tank. Put a small in -line filter between the tank and the pony engine carb.

The first thing I do when starting my cranking engine is check the oil and fill the gas tank. Yes I mean fill her up, you are stetting yourself up for some real head aches if you do not do this first. You should have a pencil size flow through the fuel hose. John Deere still has them as have bought a couple of them in the last two years (about $40 I think). Have also made my own as mentioned, your choice. The next thing after you solve the fuel issue is to run a jumper wire from the starter to the distributor, this makes them all run better.

You know, that really sounds like a pugged carburetor bowl vent to me. That's a reach, but for the fuel not to run into the bowl without pressure is pretty odd if everything else is clear. If you have the hood off, can you remove the bowl plug and see if it runs fuel through then?
