730 block

Has anybody ever bored out a 730 diesel block to 6.375"? How did it work out?

Where did the pistons come from and what head gasket did you use?

R and R where are you out of, saw a guy post your number in a previous thread with a 717 area code, trying to find someone local for a JD 70 build... I like the idea of going and seeing the person before giving them money... just my thoughts is all.

Billet would be stronger, its expensive, this one is a replacement for a broken forged one

No, Yes, No.

Keep in mind that when you do a billet crank, you can use better material than the factory forged crank. Also, you don't have the stress of the welding in there.

Also, the 730 crankpin is hollow, so another good reason to start from scratch.

So cryo freezing may be a big help on a welded one?

Cryo freezing changes the grain structure, not the inherent stresses and imperfections of welding. For people that do it, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. The two heat treaters that I deal with said it would not make a significant improvement on a welded crank.
