730 diesel first reduction cover

Silly question. but after draining out an excessive amount of water with some oil from the transmission I have refilled it with 85w-140 gear oil. 8 gallons per manual and put 1 1/2 quarts in the reduction cover. However i have a drip from the reduction cover (CRACK??) how can i keep the level correct? it does interchange with main trans but really slow equalizing between the two. don't have time currently to replace the reduction cover. how can i keep the level correct but not over fill? n

720-730 reduction covers being cracked on the bottom is epidemic . It will be plain to see .
