want2pull

i was hoping for some help,i have a 730d i want to start pulling.im going to rebuild motor first.is there any certain style pistons i should use(flattop, high compression, etc)and im going to get the head reworked i am going to have bigger valves put in it.any suggestions on what size valves to use.im needing to know a good place to get the cam redone also, any advice would be appreciated, thanks

The best place to get A cam done is denglers in ohio
there number is 513-423-4000. If you keep the stoke stroke bigger valves may hurt your power. get a good valve job done.

you may want to have fuel pumps cranked up. There are a few places. Renaissance diesel, 2 cylinder plus, probably a few more. Is it an antique class or what? The reason I ask is if its a farm class speed pull, it probably wont do too good. They are heavy, the lightest i ever saw one with cast wheels on was 7600 (if memory serves me right) without driver. You can get a 3010 or 3020 lighter than that with more power. The one 4010 I had was weighing in at 7600 without me on it and it was probably 150-175 horse. Only thing done to it was pressed steels, everything else was there.

yes i will be pullin it in antique classes 7500 and up.i pulled a 70d before , i can get more fuel to these engines im not sure how to get the air in . ive talked to a few shops and they just hate to go into my head and rework it not knowing a good starting point.

I pull a 730d in farm stock it is competitive. The problem you will face will be modified tractors in stock classes. My tractor is stock. I can pull in 8500-10000 with 3point on. I do very well against stock Ms,460s, 560s.

Find somebody local that can assist in person. If you are asking about flat top or high compression pistons in a 730 diesel.

As long as the engine is running decent and to factory specs. It has all the power needed for 1st or 2nd gear depending.
You need to concentrate first on the top three factors of making the longest pull. Traction, traction and traction.

I dont think a flat top piston will work in a diesel. Pretty sure if the dish in the top of the piston doesnt match up with the spray pattern from the injector it isnt going to run very well.

thanks for the info guys, can someone give me more spacific ideas on head work and pistons, i dont know anyone to talk to

It's a diesel. You don't work with the pistons as if it was a gasser.
How much $$$ do you have to spend and how much extra power are you expecting?
What are you going to do with the extra power?

One of the first things that almost everyone wants to do is put in the biggest d@mn valves they can lay their hands on. Bigger valves will not gain anything, and may actually lose some, if the biggest air restriction is farther up the airstream than the valves.

Before you go and put huge valves in, the first you need to do is some measuring and make sure these humongo valves dont hit the cylinder wall when you bolt the head on the block.
